Fellow members of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter: Improvements continue to be made to the newsletter – with this month’s edition, we have included the ability to download the entire newsletter for printing in case you want to read it away from your PC. Great job by Steve Duell, our Webmaster, and a Student member, Ramon Silano, from Pleasanton. The February meeting at Lam Research in Fremont featured a presentation by Ted Barron, CPP of Wells Fargo Bank on Successful Risk Management Programs and their Successful Application. Thanks to Bob Denny for hosting the meeting and providing excellent meeting facilities.
March is a full month for the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. As you know, our Annual St. Patrick’s Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon is being held at the San Mateo Marriott on March 20th, and the Event Chairman, Art Lesser, has a wonderful event planned. In addition, the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter has invited Mr. Craig Floyd from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum in Washington, D.C. to speak to us about Law Enforcement, the memorial and the museum. In addition, the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter plans to purchase a sponsorship to the museum, which has been approved by Congress, and is now in the planning and fund raising process. Holly Allison, Director of Marketing and Corporate Programs for the Memorial fund, will also be joining us and will be displaying several pieces from the museum in the reception area at the event. For more information on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, please visit www.nleomf.com. This will be a fantastic event, so register now before space runs out, and don’t forget to bring your local law enforcement representative! Also in March, ASIS International is holding the CPP Review Program and the Assets Protection Course I (APCI) at the Crowne Plaza Union Square in San Francisco starting on March 13th. As of yesterday, 57 people were confirmed for the CPP Review and 51 were confirmed for APCI which is a good attendance rate for these courses. Rudy DuBord III, CPP was instrumental in convincing ASIS International to conduct the courses here in San Francisco, great job on getting them here. Rudy and I will be in San Francisco on Friday, March 14th, to welcome the attendees and thank ASIS International at a luncheon held during the Review program. Planning for the May Seminar is well underway, and the flier for the event will be mailed out shortly. In addition to the SFBA Chapter, we plan to invite members from Golden Gate, Mt. Diablo, Monterey and Sacramento Chapters. Exhibitor Space has been selling very briskly and all of the speakers are confirmed for the event, including ASIS Foundation President, Bonnie Michelman, CPP, who is also the 2002 Chairman of the Board and Past President of ASIS International. Bonnie is the Director of Police and Security at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and will be presenting at the Luncheon. This will be a great event, so be sure not to miss it! We have an excellent lineup of volunteers operating the Chapter this year, and are beginning to gain momentum. Most all of the meeting locations are lined up, speakers confirmed and agendas set. Now we need you, the members to come out and make the meetings a success. I mentioned at the February meeting that I was invited to participate on the Advisory Board for the National Institute of Technology, which will provide guidance on the Homeland Security Specialist program. The program is designed to prepare students for entry level positions in Security and is a ten month certificate course. I am inviting members who are interested to participate in a SFBA ASIS committee to review and provide recommendations in the curriculum and content of the program. Several of our members have already been signed as instructors for the program and since we are an organization dedication to security education, this is a real good fit for the Chapter. Please let me know if you are interested in participating. That’s it for this month. I hope to see you all at the St. Patty’s luncheon! As always, should you have feedback on this article or for ASIS in general, please contact me at chair@sfasis.org. Sincerely, Copyright© by ASIS International, SFBA Chapter, 2003. |
