San Francisco ASIS Chapter
Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon Minutes for the March 15,
2002,
Four Point Sheraton Hotel, Sunnyvale, CA.
The Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon of the San Francisco
Bay Chapter of the American Society for Industrial Security was called
to order by Chapter Chair Connie Vaughn
at 11:00 am.
Chair Vaughn greeted the members and guests and called the luncheon to
order. Chair Vaughn led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Chair Vaughn then called on Police Chaplain Michael Ryan, to say a
few words and introduce Police Chaplain James Smith, Sunnyvale
Department of Public Safety to give the Invocation.
Chair Vaughn asked for a motion from the floor to dispense with normal
chapter business. A motion was made by Brad Minnis,
CPP and seconded by Patrick Sharkey, CPP.
The motion was passed.
Chair Vaughn then called on Brad Minnis, CPP,
the Vice-Chair, to make the Welcoming Remarks and conduct the
Introduction of Law Enforcement Guests. In Brads opening remarks, he
referred to 2001 as being the deadliness year for the Law Enforcement
Profession since 1975. "One law enforcement officer is killed somewhere
in the United States less than every two days" and that we owe a great
deal to the men and women represented by those members of the Law
Enforcement Community present today. Brad went on to say that "There were
more law enforcement officers killed or injured in the line of duty in 2001
than had been lost by the United States military in the War on Terrorism and
the Gulf War combined. California leads the nation in the total number of
law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty since records have been
kept."
Seventeen members of the Law Enforcement Community were present and stood
to be recognized.
LUNCH was served. Corned Beef and Cabbage for St. Patrick's Week.
Brad introduced our speaker. Who was an All-American linebacker from the
1970-71 University of Nebraska, National Championship Football team,
Bachelors Degree in Education. He is a former professional football player
that played for 11 years with the SF 49ers as Linebacker. Presently this
gentleman is the Senior Pastor of Jesus Christ For All Nations Church in
Fremont, California, Pastor Willie Harper.
Pastor Willie Harper spoke on motivating people, being a role
model and being responsible. He used the word "influence" to describe
the individual attributes and actions a person should do and be. His address
was well received and a standing ovation greeted Willie at the conclusion.
Brad thanked all those who were sponsors of the event. The "Sponsors"
included the following: Allied Security; Barton Security; Guardsmark;
Pinkerton; RFI Security. Next were the door prizes were drawn and presented
to those whose names were drawn.
Brad then thanked those who made this event happen. Event Chair

Next Chapter Meeting is April 18, 2002 at Adobe in San Jose, CA at
9:00am.
Chair Vaughn closed the meeting at 1:30 am.
A total of 121 member were in attendance and 63 guests for a total of 184
people.
