ASIS SF Bay Area Chapter
Executive Council Meeting
 2/12/2002 10:00 a.m.

Present: Connie Vaughn, Patrick Sharkey, Brad Minnis
Absent: Ken Fauth

OLD BUSINESS

  1. Discussed next general meeting at Alza. Connie handed out fliers for the event.
  2. Discussed Steve Duell’s proposal for website management. We agreed to increase his monthly payment to $1,300.00 and sign a 2-year agreement. Patrick will let Steve know. Further agreed that the increase will be retroactive to January 1, 2002.
  3. We went over the committee positions that are outstanding.
    1. HistorianKen Fauth CPP is Exec sponsor. Patrick had made contact with Kathy Schnake who said she isn’t currently the historian. We agreed that Ken should call her and ask if she is willing to take it on again for this year.
    2. Public AffairsMark Kerby had stated that he was interested but has not gotten back with us to confirm. Brad will call him and pose the question.
    3. Concern was raised about Law Enforcement Appreciation and the guest speaker. Brad will call Ed and discuss, then make a report back. Tom Pardoe had volunteered to speak, but his confirmation as the Governor’s appointee to the Office of Criminal Justice Planning has not yet been confirmed.
    4. Patrick stated that Aura Lee O’Banion may be a good candidate for Security Officer Appreciation and will pursue this. We also want to establish a solid criteria for recognition.
    5. Steve Duell sent an email asking about Legislative Liaison and the required element for submission for Website of the Year. Greg Pera is the liaison and we agreed that he would provide reports four times per year.
  4. We discussed the Annual Seminar and Exhibits. We still need speakers.
    1. Interest is for a speaker on Biometrics and one other topic.
    2. Bonnie Michelman has still not confirmed attendance so we need to plan for a back up.
    3. We will most likely still need to hire union labor, to avoid any potential informational pickets that may materialize if we don’t.
  5. Brad will call the Sunnyvale Police Chaplain and invite the individual to deliver the invocation at the Law Enforcement Luncheon.
  6. Speakers Pool was discussed and we need to get something going here.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. We discussed mailing a printed copy of the newsletter to the membership, and agreed that we will have Steve Duell send a broadcast email to members with a link to the printable version of the newsletter to all members instead of mailing hard copies. In order to get more email addresses Connie is sending the National list to Steve Duell.
  2. Connie reported that a Chapter member has received a lifetime CPP. Since the individual is in poor health and likely could not attend a meeting to receive the award, we decided that Connie will call his wife or Son, and invite them to the Chapter meeting to receive the award for him. The alternative is for us to all go over and make the presentation to him in person.
  3. Brad had previously sent a message regarding the possibility that he may be selected to serve on Congressman Mike Honda and Mayor Ron Gonzales’ Blue Ribbon Task Force on Airport Security. If the selection occurs, Brad’s intent is to solicit SFBA ASIS members to participate in a Focus Group to drive the issues and recommendations to the Task Force.
  4. Meeting locations and schedules were discussed. Connie distributed a letter from Hamilton Mixon of Genentech requesting that more meetings be held in the north bay, to accommodate those members who live in that area. Connie will contact Mr. Mixon to see if he is willing to host the June meeting. Brad will also try to contact the Security Manager for SFO to see if they may be interested in hosting this kind of meeting. We may consider doing a meeting in the North Bay once per quarter if we can get the attendance.

The next meeting of the Executive Council will be on March 6th, from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. at Guidant. Please let me know if you have any questions.
