"Why Did You Come To Today's ASIS Meeting?"

“Why Did You Come To Today’s ASIS Meeting?” was the question at the top of the survey sheet I handed out during our fourth meeting for the New Year.  With a record crowd of 25 attendees for a “regular” April meeting, I continue to determine why so many SFBA Chapter members decided to come.  There were serious questions and a few “fun” questions.

Of the 25 attendees, 11 (or 44%) completed some portion of the survey.  The significant break out went like this:

  Yes % No %
Question 1: New time was more convenient? 7 64 2 18
Question 2: Location is more convenient? 5 46 2 18
Question 3: Liked the topic being presented? 10 91 0 0
Question 4: …to meet other security friends? 11 100 0 0
Question 5: …to get back into activity with ASIS. 7 64 0 0
Question 6: …increase professional education? 9 82 0 0
Question 7: Boss out of town? 2 18 3 27
Question 8: Had nothing else to do today? 1 9 3 27
Question 9: …on the way to something else…? 0 0 4 36
Question 10: ...Have you used the Chapter website? 9 82 0 0

From the unscientific survey, we learned the order what our attendees' felt were significant:

#1 100%, (#4) meet other security friends.
#2 91%, (#3) liked the topic being presented.
#3 82%, (#6) to increase their professional education.
#4 82%, (#10) have used the Chapter web site (The question of the month.)
#5 64%, (#1) time was more convenient.
#6 64%, (#5) to get back into ASIS activity.
#7 46%, (#1) more convenient location

Of the “fun” questions in this survey only one respondent indicated that he/she had nothing better to do today, while two said their bosses were out of town.

The “question of the month” (#10) about using the chapter website clearly showed a majority of those attending today’s meeting keep in touch with the chapter website at www.sfasis.org.

For the first time in the life of these survey’s the main reason people came to today’s meeting was to meet other security professionals (100%).  However, running a very close second (91%), the topic was of importance to those attending.  I’ll keep you posted about how we fair with future meetings.
