Another
Successful Monthly Meeting!
Bring On The 29th May Seminar...
We had another successful ASIS SFBA monthly meeting! If you
wanted to learn more about the importance of Global Brand Protection and Brand
Integrity, you could have picked up a semester's worth of knowledge from our
April guest speaker, James Gordon, Sr. CPP.
You've got to be at the 29th Annual SFBA May Seminar and
Exhibits! If you don't attend any other security professional development
program this year, you've got to see the excellent program Patrick
Sharkey CPP, Denny Haw CPP and the rest of the committee have put
together for us this year. See the activity announcement in the newsletter for
more details. Enroll today!
Do you remember in 1982 when Sam
Pappageorge was our Chapter Chairman? I remember it well because I
was the Secretary of the Chapter. A future ASIS Star was the Treasurer, our own David
Gibbs. Ms. Terri O'Neil, of APS, was our Vice-Chairman and, like all
three of us, became Chapter Chairman.
Sam was a member of the exclusive Olympic Club in San
Francisco and I remember several of our meetings being held at the sometimes fog
covered golf course. If fact, I remember one year when I met the then San
Francisco Police Chief, and later Mayor of San Francisco, Frank Jordan at the
Olympic Club.
In October 1982, a "team picture" of the four of us
was taken at the Officer's Club at Treasure Island. I still have that picture
today and it brings back great memories, especially of Sam's gray curly hair. If
you ever met Sam you'd know right away he was not only a people oriented person,
but he was a very successful businessman as well. He brought his business savvy
to the chapter and many of us "youngsters" at the time learned a good
deal from Sam. With his special touch the SFBA Chapter earned the I. B. Hale
Memorial Award in 1982.
Why am I sharing all this with you? I am saddened to report
that Sam passed away on 12 April '01 at his home in Belmont, CA. Sam helped
maintain the foundation of the Chapter in the 1980's and he deserves a big
"thank you" for his efforts. He will be missed by those who knew him.
For those of you who didn't know him, yet are enjoying a Chapter membership, you
should appreciate what he did back then for your benefit today.
In a surprise announcement, Ms. Kris
Rennett told us that she chose to leave the security profession and
also her position as Secretary for the Chapter. We are going to miss her. I want
to personally thank Kris for all that she has contributed to the security
profession and our chapter over the years. I, along with the other officers,
wish her well.
We had a record seven CPP's at April's meeting. That puts us
close to the 10% mark of our nearly 100 CPP's in the Chapter. Let's keep the
momentum going!
Two of our members in attendance were also former Chapter
Chairs: Denny Haw CPP, 1981 and Brenda
Knox CPP.
In my monthly SFBA Chapter Longevity Recognition Award
Program we saw another five members recognized. See the photo elsewhere in
the newsletter.
