Legislative and Judicial Update
After two years of effort and progress on Capitol Hill to assist businesses
in realizing the benefits of security and life safety systems, the Security
Industry Association (SIA) is pleased to announce that on September 25, 2001,
Rep. Jerry Weller (R-IL) and co-sponsor Joseph Crowley (D-NY) introduced H.R.
2970, the Securing America Investment Act of 2001. H.R. 2970 is a tax credit
bill that amends the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow businesses to
expense the purchase of equipment that will secure their facilities and protect
their employees' and customers' safety.
Simply put, this will provide an economic incentive to business owners, in
the form of a tax break allowing them to deduct up to 100% of their purchase, to
equip their establishments with security, fire, and life safety systems.
We need you and all industry members to contact your U.S. Representative to
urge them to support and co-sponsor this bill. Please take a few minutes to
assist us in passing this bill that will benefit our entire industry. Remember,
even one constituent fax, letter or phone call can sway an undecided
Representative's vote. Please forward this to colleagues and customers and take
part in this important process. We request that industry professionals and users
copy SIA on their correspondence to Representatives, to help us when we talk to
Congressional offices.
Regards,
