CPP Update

Chapter Membership Benefits the CPP Applicant as well as the CPP

The CPP program allows security practitioners to strive for professional certification and to stay current in the profession. In order to become certified, applicants must meet certain criteria that include a combination of education and experience. Once the application is approved, the candidate must prepare for a comprehensive exam that challenges even the seasoned professional. Preparation may include taking the formal study course, working in a study group, and individual study from the CPP suggested reading. Only after the applicant tests and passes the exam, is the certification earned. But it doesn't end there, as the CPP must recertify every three years. Recertification occurs by achieving points from involvement in the profession. This can include seminar attendance, course work in security, and involvement in a professional organization.

The SFBA chapter can assist members wishing to prepare for the exam. This past year, we have had monthly meetings applicable to the CPP exam with future meetings scheduled. Also, interested applicants can become part of a study group that is being headed by a CPP committee member. In addition, the SFBA chapter has a library stocked with the current suggested reading material for the exam.

Chapter involvement can help current CPPs earn points towards recertification while benefiting our membership. Our chapter is always looking for speakers for the monthly meetings. Also, articles can be written for posting on our online library. CPPs can also volunteer for a chapter officer or committee member position.

I would encourage anyone who wishes to study for the CPP exam or for CPPs who need to recertify, to take advantage of your chapter membership and utilize the resources available to you.
