Chairman's Corner

September 2000
Hi Everyone-
Just a reminder there is no local chapter meeting this
month due to the National Convention in Orlando. Hopefully some of you
will have the opportunity to be there. Our Chapter will be receiving recognition
at the ASIS Foundation Reception and dinner for the donation we made, if you are
interested in attending, contact Ron Sathre.
October is our next big event, which you should be
planning for NOW! It is Security Officer Appreciation Day and we
need the names of the officers you wish to recognize right away. See the flier
and sign up form, or contact Connie
Vaughn or Kendra Ahlquist
for more information. We need to have the names of the officers in advance of
the event, and this event is a popular one and we can only accommodate a certain
number in the Ballroom at the Sunnyvale Hilton, so don't wait! The goal
of this event is to recognize your top officers and thank them either for
specific contributions of excellence or for their ongoing key participation as
one of the top people on your team. Brenda
Knox is heading up the speakers program and we have a program that will
be directed toward the officers, highlighting some of our chapter members and
how they have achieved their leadership positions. Several of them began as
Security Officers at one time.
Speaking of leadership, we are in the midst of
planning for next year, if you are interested in being considered for a position
as an officer of the chapter, or for committee chairmanship or participation,
send me an email at kgoelkel@rfi.com,
or contact Vice- Chair Ron Sathre at PB4Yguy@aol.com.
We are all busy, it has been a huge challenge for me to maintain Chairmanship in
the midst of job and career changes, and I could not have done it without the
help of the dedicated volunteers of our chapter. It is rewarding to work with
such competent, motivated people, and you will find you will have lots of fun
too! Join the team!
Last month's Golf Tournament at Sunol was certainly
fun, and I want to thank Roni Davis, Golf
Tournament Committee Chair and her team for putting on such a great event. The
common answer in response to the question "How was your game?"
seemed to be "I have no business being on a golf course but it was lots
of fun! " so you don't have to be a pro to participate, and even if you
are a pro and you have a bad day nobody cares! Attending the luncheon is also
fun even if you don't play, we had a great buffet, the weather was gorgeous and
the door prizes definitely cool. Many thanks to all of the sponsor companies
who donated money and prizes!
We continue to seek articles and information about our Member's
accomplishments for our web newsletter, so please sit down and write a story
about some situation you think others might learn from, or let us know about key
accomplishments or speaker presentations you or other chapter members on your
team have made this past year. Brad Wilson
is also working on the IB Hale submission and needs your
information.
Recently several of our members have passed the CPP
exam, and I would like to congratulate them for investing the study time and
effort to attain that certification. They are:
For more information about the CPP program, see the CPP
section or contact Rudy DuBord, CPP
chair. Remember we have all the Committee Chair contact info on the page titled Chapter
Officers, as well as in our online Members
Directory.
Once again, thanks for all your participation, this is
your chapter, so help it to be what you desire in a security organization, and
let's help mentor some new future security leaders. Get those names in for Security
Officer Appreciation Day on October 19, 2000.
