Chairman's Corner

Chairman's Corner

The Annual Seminar and Exhibits Committee is putting the final touches on the plans for this year's event. I would like to invite you to attend the Chairman's Reception on May 17th, the evening before the event from 6-8 p.m., also at the San Mateo Expo Center. This gathering is an excellent opportunity to network with your peers and your customers, and to visit the exhibits before the crowds arrive the next day. Our second year at the San Mateo Expo Center, The 28th Annual Seminar and Exhibits introduces a new theme- "Getting it Together in 2000." Security Professionals of the new millennium face ever changing issues and challenges, and one of the goals of this year's event is to provide resources to assist in meeting those challenges.

From a panel program looking into the future of integrated technologies for the security industry, to an exploration of the here and now in Successful Wide Area Integrated Security Systems presented by Hewlett Packard's Bob Falconi, CPP, the morning programs delve into the systems aspects of security today. The Luncheon program features Ginger Graham, President of Guidant's Vascular Intervention Group, speaking on how to deliver successful customer service in an age of innovation and technology. The afternoon kicks off with a program on Terrorism, a topic much in the forefront of people's minds these days, presented by Weldon Kennedy, former FBI Deputy Director, now Vice Chairman of Guardsmark. Mr. Kennedy received widespread acclamation for his handling of the Oklahoma City bombing investigation, and he will share some of his experience pertaining to that event, as well as his thoughts on current and future domestic terrorism threats. That program is followed by another panel discussion by a team from the U.S. Postal Service on Workplace Violence: Assessing the Risk and Managing the Crisis. The Postal Service has borne the brunt of many jokes on Workplace Violence, but they have done a great deal toward educating others on dealing with the risks of Workplace Violence, and managing the crisis should it occur.

Top this program of presentations off with an Exhibit Hall with over 90 booths displaying state of the art security products and services, and you can see why this event deserves a day of your time. Register now online at www.regdesk.com, or see our web page article for more information. I look forward to seeing you on May 17th and 18th.

Plan now also to attend the next segment of our CPP Preparation Workshops to be held prior to our June meeting on June 15th at the Sunnyvale Hilton. The topic will be Physical Security.
