Chairman's Corner

Chairman's Corner

December 2000

As we approach the end of the year 2000, I have been pondering the past year for our chapter. The success of the year is thanks to the volunteers who have devoted their time- both business and personal- to make this chapter work. I wish to convey my great thanks to all those people, and ask that everyone join us for their recognition at our Dec 21 Christmas meeting. First of all, I wish to thank Ron Sathre, CPP, Vice-Chair, Dan Wachtler, Secretary, and Kris Rennett, Treasurer. They have worked hard to make this year a success, and Ron and Kris are continuing as officers next year.

I also wish to recognize the Committee Chairs and all their committee members. As far as our major events, the Annual Seminar and Exhibits Committee was co-chaired by Brenda Knox, CPP and Tom Haney, with the assistance of their very able committee including Dennis Haw, Finance; Paul Klutz, Exhibitors; the Programs team included Patrick Sharkey, Brad Wilson, Don Davis and Ed Lloyd; Sponsorship Brad Wilson and Chris Clark; and Security was handled by Roy Enos. St. Patrick's Day Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Luncheon was chaired by David Gibbs, CPP with support from his committee including the Sponsorship team of Ted Barron, Maria Padgett and Cindy Doyle, the Hospitality team of Carol Peterson, Ama Thiaray, Liaqat Ali, and Inder Somel, the Decorations and Event ambiance by Pete Lehner, the Entertainment by Wayne Dexter and the Security by Michael Clements. The Golf Tournament was chaired by Roni Davis, CPP with help from Connie Vaughn and Valerie Kosorek. Security Officer Appreciation Luncheon was chaired by Connie Vaughn with help from Brenda Knox and Valerie Kosorek

Our meeting Programs and Speakers were arranged by Greg Morrill, with Hospitality help from Kendra Ahlquist and Ama Thiaray. Our Chaplain Ron Sathre opened each meeting with thanks and blessings. The money was kept in line by our Budget and Finance Chair Dennis Haw. Our CPP Program was enhanced this year by Committee Chair Rudy DuBord, CPP with help from Steve Taylor and Kiet Phan. Our ASIS Foundation Chair was Wayne Dexter. Our Membership was greeted by Membership Chair Cindy Doyle, and kept informed by Newsletter Editor Mike Pinelli and Webmaster Steve Duell, with photos by Photographer Ron Kane. We were kept regularly informed about legislative issues by Jim Cawood, CPP, and our members found jobs with the help of our Placement Committee Chair John Suhr. We find each other in the online Directory thanks to Directory Chair Brad Wilson and Ina Yam. That team also assembled our IB Hale Nomination. Our Library is maintained by Library Chair Gary Sepulveda, and our stuff was stored by Historian Kathy Schnake.

These Committee Chairs handled their responsibilities in many cases with less help than would be ideal for the magnitude of the programs or events they supported, and I commend them for that. I urge the membership to find a little time in their busy year ahead to contribute to the chapter in some way. We are all "too busy" to help, but somehow it all comes down to choices. I believe ASIS is a valuable organization for the security professional. If you too believe that, we need your help. Click here to volunteer your services for the coming year.

In December we will be doing a Toys for Tots Drive, please bring an unwrapped toy to the meeting on December 21 at 11:30 at the Four Points Sheraton. We will be holding a Christmas Party, doing the installation of Officers for the Year 2001 and thanking our volunteers. There will not be a seminar prior to the meeting.

Once again- thanks to everyone for their support this past year. It has been an honor to serve as Chair of a chapter the caliber of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of ASIS.
