Chairman's Corner

Chairman's Corner

Hard to believe that the year is half over. It does seem like yesterday that Roni, Kathy, Ron and I assumed the 1999 leadership of the chapter. To date the chapter has had its usual successful events with St. Patrick’s Day and the Annual Seminar. This year’s new luncheon speaker committee chairman, Greg Morrill, has brought us entertaining and informative speakers.

The next outstanding event will be the Larry Marshall Memorial Golf Tournament. Connie Vaughn and Kim Space are hard at work on this event which will be Friday, August 20, 1999 at the Sunol Golf Club. Registration information is available on the web site and registration forms have been faxed out to the membership. Take advantage of the early sign up to receive your 1998 discount. This is always a fun event and should not be missed. Sign up today and we’ll see who is the best chapter golfer.

Another not-to-be-missed event is the one-day workshop Dennis Haw is planning for September 16,1999. This seminar will cover the topic Terrorism and Emergency Preparedness and will be held at Silicon Graphics. Although all of the details of the workshop are still being determined, the seminar will cover, "Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction" presented by John Lightfoot, FBI; "Emergency Preparedness Implementation" presented by Tony Smerdel, E.P.I.C. consultant; and "Are You Prepared for Chemical and Biological Agents in Industrial Sabotage?" presented by Dr Harold K. "Hal" Strunk, USN Ret. This seminar is being sponsored through the Jack Buckley Foundation and will be available at minimal or no cost to the membership. Brochures, with registration information, will be in the mail soon. Mark your calendars and plan to attend this interesting and informative seminar.

The next meeting is July 15, 1999 and will be at the Sunnyvale Hilton located at Highway 101 and Lawrence Expressway on the frontage road. Dan Wachtler and Greg Morrill will have a dynamic workshop presentation as well as an interesting luncheon speaker lined up to provide valuable information. Hope to see all of you there.
