Wednesday, 15 April 1999

  1. The monthly San Francisco Bay Area Chapter meeting of ASIS was called to order at 12:07 p.m. by Chapter Chair Ms. Kathy Schnake, CPP. Ms. Schnake led the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  2. Chapter Secretary and Chaplain Mr. Ronald R. Sathre, CPP, gave the invocation.
  3. Ms. Schnake introduced the head table.
  4. The Meeting Minutes for March 1999 and the Treasurer's Report as will be published in the May 1999 issue of the Bay Area Network were approved and accepted in advance. Ms. Goelkel presented a summary of the Treasurer's Report.
  5. Ms. Brenda Knox, CPP, RVP and Seminar Committee briefed the attendees about the following:

    A. The 27th Annual Seminar and Exhibits will be held on 20 May at the San Mateo (CA) County Expo Center. The wide variety of presentations will be of interest to our membership. There will be over 90 vendor booths. The luncheon will seat over 400 so sign up now. A special Chairman's Preview will be held locally the night before for and will include a ribbon cutting ceremony.

    B. The Pacific Rim Conference held in Hawaii in late March 1999 was a success. There were only 35 exhibitors. The law enforcement presence at the conference was notable.

  6. Ms. Schnake briefed the attendees about the following new business:

    A. A study of the chapter finances reflected an annual cost of over $14K to produce the newsletter. Because of this high cost and in an effort to save money, it has been decided to shift to the use of the chapter's website as the primary communication platform: www.sfasis.org. A broadcast fax will be used to help get the chances to the members along with e-mail notices. Advertising will be available along with links to the advertisers sites. The last issue of the newsletter will be published in May '99.

    B. Applications (available from Ms. Schnake) are being accepted via the Alan J. Cross Scholarship Award which will pay for one chapter member to attend the CPP Review at the National Seminar in Las Vegas, NV.

    C. As a result of called in reservations not being filled, and thus a loss of revenue for the chapter, future reservations will only be accepted with a credit card number. The advance luncheon reservation is $25 and $30 at the door. Pre-paying of these charges is encouraged and is transferable to other company members in the event the original requester is unable to attend.

    D. Ms. Cindy Doyle presented over 10 new member certificates.

    E. Mr. Haw, CPP, stated on 16 September a seminar will be held entitled "Terrorism & Weapons of Mass Destruction."

  7. Mr. Greg Morrill introduced SGT. Nick M. Muyo, San Jose (CA) PD who spoke about the existence of the multi-country and jurisdictional task force called REACT and its successes fighting (anything involving a computer) crime.
  8. Ms. Schnake recognized the luncheon speaker and thanked all in attendance. The meeting was adjourned at 1:22 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,
Ronald R. Sathre, CPP
Chapter Secretary
