CONTINUING THE COUNTDOWN
TO THE MILLENNIUM
The 600-member San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the American Society for Industrial
Security (ASIS) is again sponsoring its annual Seminar & Exhibits. Because this event
has continually grown over the years, the chapter committee sought a venue that would
accommodate the many exhibitors. The San Mateo County Expo Center is a perfect choice, and
the event will be held on Thursday, May 20th, 1999. The theme, COUNTDOWN TO THE
MILLENNIUM---SECURITY & SAFETY IN THE YEAR 2000, is being continued this
year.
As we near the twenty-first century, crime and Y2K compliance continue to be of utmost
concern to everyone, business owners and security professionals in particular. So, the
line-up of knowledgeable speakers were chosen to conduct seminars on such timely topics
as:
- Seeing Security Through A Filter Of Hospitality
- Using The Intranet To Make Your Security Department Paperless
- Trade Secrets: Corporate & Government Viewpoints
- Travel Can Be Murder
- Safety Issues: Are You Truly In Compliance?
- Are You Ready For January 1, 2000?
The Luncheon speaker, Lawrence R. Rodriggs, a third
generation-born Hawaiian of Portuguese ancestry, will give an oral and pictorial
presentation of what it was like to be a civilian in Honolulu during the bombing of Pearl
Harbor. Based on his book We Remember Pearl Harbor, Mr. Rodriggs will recount the
civilian deaths, damage, curfews, blackouts, air-raid drills, and general confusion that
took place during that dark period of American history. He has been instrumental in
getting civilian names added to the memorial of war dead, and his talk will prove to be a
moving and dramatic look at this side of the story.
In addition to these topics, the latest in technological advances will be highlighted
in the exhibit hall, where vendors will be showing off and explaining their wares. And of
course, for the collectors, the limited-edition event pins will be sold again this year.
