Let me start by congratulating all of our chapter officers for the 1999 year. We have many new leaders and some returning volunteers from years past. This is the time of year for all of us to get organized and embrace our new responsibilities and positions. I have spent the month of January doing just that. As an ASIS Regional Vice President, one of my responsibilities is to provide guidance, leadership, and information to chapter officers and members. Another responsibility is to visit all the chapters in Region II. If I have not been out to your chapter yet, I'll be there soon.

I have appointed two Assistant RVP's for Region II; Nick Keck, CPP, from the Sacramento Chapter and Bert Corniel, CPP, from the Hawaii Chapter. Both of them have served in this capacity in prior years and have been leaders and volunteers in their chapters for many years. I look forward to working with them this year in furthering the success and goals of ASIS International and Region II.

The following are the Region II goals for 1999: ·

  • Increase membership participation at Chapter Meetings
  • Increase the number of Region II chapters submitting In Hale and Newsletter award entries
  • Develop a Speaker Resource List for Region II
  • Hold a regional breakfast at the ASIS International Annual Seminar & Exhibits in Las Vegas, NV
  • Develop programs that optimize the use of scholarship funds available to the chapters and region
  • Increase the number of CPP's in Region II.

The success of these regional goals depends on the individual and collective efforts of every ASIS member in Region II. Support your local chapter by attending the monthly meetings, volunteering to work on a committee, or supporting a special event. If you are an expert in a certain area, have an interesting security experience to share, or regularly give presentations and talks on security issues, please send me your name, contact number, and topic so we can add you to the Speaker Resource List. If you have not yet earned the internationally recognized CPP designation, consider making that one of your goals for 1999. Many chapters are putting together CPP study groups and the new computerized testing makes the process more convenient than ever.

If any of you have any comments suggestions, or concerns please feel free to contact myself or one of the assistant RVPs. We are here to provide the membership and chapters of Region II support and leadership.

Thank you for your support and see you at a Chapter meeting.
