Luncheon SpeakerChief William Lansdowne
The February ASIS luncheon speaker will be San Jose Police Chief William (Bill) Lansdowne. Chief Lansdowne left the San Jose Police Department as the Assistant Chief in 1994 to become the Chief of Richmond Police Department for four years. With over 32 years of law enforcement experience, he has returned to San Jose, again. He has stated, "this is the job I've been working for all my life". His return brings a tremendous energy and management leadership to the San Jose Police Department, with over 1,325 Sworn Officers and a yearly budget of over $158 million. Chief Lansdowne believes in a Department that is progressive, internally healthy, open to public scrutiny, and committed to working in partnership with the community. He has been widely hailed as energetic, demanding, and personable. He has promised to usher in the next generation of community policing. He has been credited with improving officer morale and adopting innovative programs to reduce crime in Richmond. He has stated that he intends to build upon the legacy of his two predecessors. Chief Lansdowne has instituted an open door policy where citizens are invited in to speak with the chief one-to-one. He eagerly welcomed the opportunity to meet with the San Francisco Bay Area ASIS chapter members. By Greg Morrill, CPP
