Chairman's Corner

Many thanks to Charles Gorley
and the Hospitality Committee for their hard work in making the Security Officer
Recognition Day a success. There
were over 156 registered attendees for this event and Bill
Wipprecht, a Vice President with Wells Fargo Bank and a long time
member of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, was a great luncheon speaker.
The chapter was also very honored to be able to present to Patrick
Sharkey of Guidant/ACS, an ASIS Foundation scholarship check for
$1,000. Patrick has been working
towards his Masters degree.
In November, the workshop will
be on the topic of Network Security and will be presented by Jon Smith
of 3Com. Jon, who is affiliated
with the University of California at Santa Cruz and the extension network
security program, will be discussing Internet Investigations. The November luncheon speaker will be Ralph Tonseth,
the Director of Aviation for the San Jose International Airport.
There are many exciting changes occurring with this medium-hub airport
and Ralph will be educating the membership on what those changes are and what
they will mean to San Jose and its airport’s future.
In addition, in November, we
will be holding the election for the new officers for 2000.
Unfortunately, Roni Davis has
indicated that, due to business requirements, she will not be able to continue
as an officer for the chapter; however, Roni will continue as Vice Chairman
through the end of the year and will then assume the chairmanship of the Larry
Marshall Golf Tournament. The
Nominating Committee (consisting of Dennis Haw
[Chairman], Brenda Knox and Paul
Dubois) has presented the following recommendations for officers for
the year 2000: Chapter Chairman – Kathy Goelkel;
Chapter Vice Chairman – Ron Sathre;
Chapter Secretary – Dan Wachtler; and
Chapter Treasurer – Lynette Foulger.
Mark your calendars for November
18, 1999. See you there. |
