View from the Chair

Lewis A. Schatz CPP, MS, CHPAWe had discussions at our Executive Council meeting again about the lack of attendance at our northern site meeting. I asked for and received permission to create a task force to look at both meeting locations, and splitting the chapter. I am really hesitant to do that because we have here one of the very best chapters in the country. When I go in to meet with hospital administrators and tell them I can replace some of my people with technology, often they will say "Why would you do that when you make money by having more people?" I respond by saying, "I agreed to give you the best security program I can. " It's one of the hard decisions we have to make. This one affects everyone.

We will do a survey, call members, review legalities, and study this for a year. This survey document will identify the task force members, give phone numbers, and perhaps be a regular meeting program.

On a more positive note, in the ASIS Leadership Update (a monthly publication to all volunteer members in the ASIS), there is a section for national officers to write about their activities. I want to quote Roy Humphrey, CPP, our national Treasurer, and guest at our annual seminar: "I recently represented President Mark Geraci at two outstanding ASIS functions: 1) the New York City Chapters Eighth Annual Trade Show & Person Of The Year Luncheon, and 2) the San Francisco Bay Area Chapters Annual Exhibits in Palo Alto, California. It is also exciting to see the dynamism, professionalism, and commitment as reflected at the Chapter leadership level by small cadres of dedicated volunteer leaders. This was dramatically obvious in my trips to Boston, New York City, and Palo Alto, and the results of hard work by and 'inner core' of members were truly evident. These qualities warrant 'capture' and dissemination throughout our membership. A challenge for all is to infuse these same qualities in our members: these ' templates of excellence' can be replicated to stimulate Chapter participation in meeting attendance throughout our organization."

Sincerely,
Lewis A. Schatz, CPP, MS, CHPA
