General Minutes

June 18, 1998The meeting was called to order at 12:08 p.m. by Chairperson Lewis A. Schatz. Lew introduced Brad Wilson, the Chapter I.B. Hale Chair. Brad spoke about the I.B. Hale and requested members of the chapter to submit any materials they have had published this year. The meeting was started with the pledge of allegiance followed by the invocation by Hamilton Mixon. Lew made a motion to approve the meeting minutes as published in the newsletter. The motion was seconded and approved. Roni Davis, Treasurer, read the treasurer's report. Lew made a motion to approve the treasurer's report. The motion was seconded and approved. Lew introduced the members at the head table and new members to the Chapter introduced themselves. There were seven new members present at the meeting.

Hamilton Mixon announced information about the upcoming workshops and requested suggestions for additional workshops. Lew announced the book "Travel Smarts" was available at the registration table. Lew recognized Cynthia Butler, Membership Chair, and Kendra Ahlquist, Hospitality & Events Chair, for their meeting planning.

Hamilton Mixon introduced the speaker, Special Agent in Charge Daniel Snow of the United States Secret Service Office of San Francisco. Snow presented the scope of the US Secret Service efforts to curb counterfeiting in the San Francisco Bay Area. Snow provided information about the history, types, methods, and current problems of counterfeiting. In addition, he brought samples of some of the counterfeit currency found in the Bay Area and passed them around for the members to inspect. Snow shared information on currency features used to identify real currency. At the end of the presentation, Snow passed out "New Designs for Your Money" pamphlets that included information on the new currency designs and features to look for ii order to guard against counterfeits. Lew thanked Daniel for his presentation and presented him with a gift of appreciation from the chapter.

The door prizes were provided by Instashred. The drawing for the gifts was held and the meeting was adjourned.
